GCI celebrates its championing with roller skating!

HORIZONS skate park was our destination tonight as we took some well-deserved time off from the grueling tasks of improvising.

LIAM rolls like a mutha, y'all.
JOANNA glides into action.
PAUL -- farthest to the left -- gets into the groove with a conga line o'skaters! Just like the old days of disco and skate parties...when PAUL wasn't even alive!!!
MIKE and BRIAN tackle the air hockey table -- BRIAN triumphed!
TIM -- just before nearly falling! Again!
LIAM and BRIAN take a breather.

Thanks again to everyone that voted us best blog in Rochester, and runner-up in best theatrical performance! How did we celebrate? Well, re-read the title of this post!

You are viewing the best blog in Greater Rochester!!!

Oh my God! You must have just read in City Newspaper that this is the best blog in Greater Rochester and, being an internet-surfing citizen of Monroe county, you immediately raced to your computer and navigated your way here!

Welcome! This is the blog of Geva Comedy Improv, Rochester's finest in late-night comedy entertainment. On this blog you'll find:

-Photos from and announcements about our shows.

-Illustrations of futuristic athletic competitions.

-Photos of what the cast members of Geva Comedy Improv do when they're not living the life of fabulous super comedy all-stars at one of our delightfully rambunctious performances.

-Personal gripes and insight into the lives of people you normally would only see on stage.

-Messages from one Improvisor to another. Example: Tim, now that we have THE BEST BLOG IN GREATER ROCHESTER it might be time to make with some more pictures, punk. I would do it, but my computer sucks and you know this.

Who knows what else may get posted?! Visit us often! Remember, we are the most reliable source in western New York for monekys, pirates, and giant robots.

Thanks to City Magazine for this unmatchable honor, and thanks to all our fans who filled out a ballot on our behalf. This is a great week for democracy.
Another Democrat will soon be in city hall
(DISCLAIMER: GCI has no political agenda though we did get a great picture with the mayor-elect a few months ago!) and not only have we been voted BEST BLOG but we were also the RUNNER-UP for BEST LOCAL THEATER PRODUCTION just behind A Chorus Line.

Thanks to all who voted!

FIASCO -- the LAKE BOAT season -- Starts Monday!

This Monday the 7th GEVA COMEDY IMPROV begins the regular season of FIASCO, their improvised soap opera!!! You'll see all the intrigue, mystery, deceit, passion, and fun of your fancy-pants t.v. "stories," but this time it's made up on the spot!

And the best part is, it's playing for five straight weeks of Mondays. Head out to the Ballroom in the Seymour Student Union at SUNY Brockport and join in the fun! Tickets are $2, $1 with student I.D. The show starts at 9:30 pm!!!

Thanks to Brockport's Student Government and the theatre club Harlequins for helping us put it together...see you Monday!

GCI shows you how to get rid of zombies at brian and mike's halloween party.

enjoying yourself? with a pint in your hand and a cricket bat at your side, the party's your oyster. bring on the board games and slightyly-tipsy revelrousness!
but what's this? ohhh, dear! one of the party's citizenry has decided that you, dear friend, are looking quite tastier than that bowl of alcohol-drenched gummi bears.
those of you less prepared -- say, those dressed as gnomes or yoda -- might fall prey to this creature of the night, this duke of hazard, this evil puppy. but with some quick thinking, and abstainment from the path of panic-strickenry, you can start to beat the shit out of the approaching zombie. remember: go for the head! it's where they're the weakest.
ahhh, raise the roof, indeed! you've destroyed the zombie, saved the party, and have won the praise of those less destructive than you! huzzah, good friend! huzzah! on to those gummi bears!

It begins....

Oh so very, very soon!

What's awesome about the 25.5 hours of improv hilarity? Well, there is the original, Rochester-created formats that will be performed: Mookie & Brian's City Council, Johanna's Characterprov, Swithun's Happy Fun Kids Show, Brian's Britaprov, Paul's Nellis Presley and so very much more! There will be guest stars from University of Rochester's In Between the Lines truope coming down at 8 AM to play a little Micetro and trying to be crowned GRAND MICETRO CHAMPION in the spirit of former winners Shawnda Urie and Adam Litz! Let's not forgot the IN-CRED-IB-L-E DEBUT of LAKE BOAT, GCI's Improvised Soap Opera. Costumes + Entrance Music + a whole lot of sleep deprivation = WOW.

So, hopefully you heard about the show somehow. Perhaps it was on WBEE, Fickle, MIX 100.5, WBER, City Newspaper or on any number of other places. What matters is we want you there - starting tonight! Got some time tomorrow? HEAD ON DOWN. Need a haircut? We'll gladly do that too. Just ask for Beki and bring your own Sissors! ROCK ON.

no shame in the game.

You know, being a record store snob and all, I alll-ways have to remind myself: I'm only human. So I thought I'd take a moment from the constant exaltation of bands like Nine Inch Nails and The Decemberists and expose those albums that, come Hell or high water, I'll never, ever part with.

1_Phil Collins, NO JACKET REQUIRED. "Sussudio" and "Take Me Home?" Classics, my friend, classics. And the video for "Don't Lose My Number" was da bormb.
2_Janet Jackson, DESIGN OF A DECADE. I got this CD after not checking off the "don't-send-me-the-bmg-pick-of-the-month" box on my monthly bmg club thingy. So I got this, and then realized that Janet Jackson was the [scum bib] back in the day, but is nothing but [scum bib] now.
3_Extreme, EXTREME II: PORNOGRAFFITTI. If Nirvana and that whole Seattle-thing had never happened, then Nuno Bettencourt would no doubt have become the next Eddie Van Halen. But then again, after seeing what's happened to Eddie Van Halen, that might not be so savory a title.

Pix from the Tournament!

ADAM, PAUL NELLIS, and TIM had a fantastic time down in Atlanta learning how improv is done at Dad's Garage's DESTROY ALL IMPROVISORS TOURNAMENT!!! Above you see Dad's Improv Guru TIM as he readies to take us to the airport after the traditional all-night post-tournament party! Teams from Austria, Toronto, Edmonton, L.A., Atlanta...it was a great time, and we have so many people to thank: TIM and everyone else at Dad's, all the improvisors who showed us so many things and taught us so much, ALISTER for showing us how to really play dodgeball...too many to name. We were very lucky to be invited, and hope to see evryone again some day. As for us? 6th place!!! We'll show off our proudly-taken trophy to you soon. Thanks again, Atlanta...next year? Look out, 5th place!!! Here's how the deal shook out:

6th Place -- Team Rochester, from Geva!!!
5th Place -- Dad's Garage, from Atlanta!!!
4th Place -- Team L.A.: Joseph of Acme Theatre (he's actually one of the founders of Dad's)
3rd Place -- Team Toronto, Iron Cobra!!!
2nd Place -- Team Edmonton, from Rapid Fire Theatre
1st Place -- Team Austria!
One-half of the Tournament's Championship team -- JACOB of TEAM AUSTRIA -- hangs with GCI after the last night of the tournament!!!
Here's ALISTER, offspring of Dad's Garage legends GEORGE and LIZ, who's also quite the master of dodgeball!!!
Here's your sixth-place finishers, TEAM ROCHESTER!!! DAN, TIM, PAUL NELLIS, and ADAM. Who's DAN, you might ask? A Dad's Garage fella who grew up in the Roc, making Greece-Olympia his high school home!
