"No, don't you see? The Gorilla is the SOLUTION to our problems!!!"

Yeah, sorry...that headline came from our rehearsal tonight, so while it doesn't make much sense, realize this: it was hilarious. Just under two weeks until our next round of shows -- February 11th and 12th -- so get those tickets at www.gevatheatre.org or call 232-GEVA and get the hippity to the skippity, ya heard? Rehearsal went really well tonight, lots of laughs.

For those who'd like to see the South's answer to David Brent

I'd like to thank boingboing.net for the hours of entertainment they've provided this old improvisor's soul. This weather man, Boing Boing says, was fired last year for substance abuse.

Trust me, I know what I'm doing.

Saturday Night. The big bad storm is whipping about outside, and although I have the first four-wheel drive automobile I've ever had, I'm shutting myself in for the night. Here's how I've staved off cabin fever so far:

1) Watching Sledge Hammer, season 1, on DVD. Now, in order to proclaim my complete dorkness, I'll give you trivia -- did you know Danny Elfman composed the theme?

2) Finishing off all those bags of chips I had in my cupboard that only had crumbs left in them.

3) Wondering if Paul is still having his party tonight.

4) Trying to get Kinski to accept me as a friend on myspace.

A little rehearsal never hurt anybody.

Tonight's theme seemed to be racing box cars in rehearsal, and one of those evenings where we've all got a different game in our head but have the same -- or similar -- name for it. Laughing ensues, we abandon it, and just do open scenes. See? When we succeed, we don't know how we did it. When we try, calamity ensues. Good times.

Cars vs Motorcycles: The Ultimate Automotive Challenge

This is PAUL'S conceptual drawing of his new sport, drawn lovingly on a napkin from Macgregor's. In it, you can see loads and loads of screaming fans (upper left) cheer on TIM (driving the stock car that is racing towards the viewer -- note the motion lines) as he takes a turn while trying to dodge the sword of PAUL (riding the motorcycle to the right of the stock car -- note the motion lines). Deal With It.

So. Brian and I are walking out of Charlie's Frog Pond after rehearsal tonight, and I was wondering if fiscal irresponsibility might be a reason for being denied access through the Pearly Gates (these are the deep philosophical debates that rage in the highly intellectual underbelly of improv), and at one point I asked Brian:

"What if I was a good person but made really bad decisions, like, buying Bush's RAZORBLADE SUITCASE?"

...and as if on cue, some gruff-looking guy wearing a dirty Carhart jumpsuit walking the other way snorted a reply: "Deal With it."

Advice for us all, really.

Mookie is alive.. sort of.

I almost forgot I was supposed to post a "late-night-at-work-GCI-exclusive-blog-piece" yesterday. Well, I guess I did forget. I'm working a ton. 10-14 hours a day. Boo.

Anyways, it's January. Which means we're closer to April than ever, and all our loyal GCI fans know that April is GEVA COMEDY IMPROV: BEARD-OFF time.

Tonight's rehearsal

Our first rehearsal of 2005 -- and, to be honest, our first in a few weeks -- was lots of fun; we took pictures for a few new flyer ideas, hashed out a few ideas (we're planning on some great shows, y'all, seriously) and then played a few games. Once I got the giggles during one of our scenes (CHRIS' serious face is, actually, quite hilarious) ADAM suggested we play a game where one person sits in front of the rest of the group and tries not to laugh while the rest of the group mucks about and tries to make that person laugh. I was awful at this game; PAUL was great; but he had the advantage, having only just woken up from an overnight shift he worked last night.

Highland Park Diner afterwards for dinner with BRIAN, ADAM, and PAUL.

Coffee with Adam

Just got back from Java's where I caught up with ADAM on our respective Holidays. The current state of "country" music? Discussed. Isaacson's BENJAMIN FRANKLIN dissected? Sho' nuff. LIFE AQUATIC with STEVE ZISSOU debated? You bet. What exciting and thrill-a-minute lives we lead!

And I finally remembered the missing album in my Favorite Albums of 2004 list that I needed to do to fulfill Record Archive employee obligations. So here goes:

Tim's favorite albums of 2004, sucka.
10. Handsome Boy Modelling School, WHITE PEOPLE.
9. Fantomas, DELIRIUM CORDIA.
8. F(scum bib)ing Am, GOLD.
7. Vernon Reid, KNOWN UNKNOWN.
6. The Faint, WET FROM BIRTH.
5. Eagles of Death Metal, LOVE PEACE DEATH METAL.
4. Phantom Planet, PHANTOM PLANET.
3. Ministry, HOUSES of the MOLE.
2. The Hives, TYRANNASAURUS HIVES.
1. U2, HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB.
...yuh daaaamn right.

Food for thought

Hey Tim, I didn't write this, but someone else did for people just like you.

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=11worst

That's right, it's from Maddox's The Best Page in the Universe. You've probably seen some of it before, the article on Kid's Art, is classic comedy. Yes, it's very dark and cruel, but I can't stop laughing when I read this stuff. If you have an hour to kill or so, then I suggest you check this out. It's funny stuff.

But back to this article in particular, it was not written specifically for Tim, but everything in it is an attack on those things which he holds dear. Seriously, i think this is hilarious, and it's all in good fun. Check it out Tim. Remember, if you can't laugh at yourself, you don't have a sense of humor.

Happy New Year!

What's the best thing about New Year's Day?

1) A cheap excuse to play U2's WAR album.

2) Only two months before NASCAR starts.

3) A clean slate.
